With the entry in the commercial register of the local court in Iserlohn (Germany) confirmed, ThyssenKrupp VDM GmbH (ThyssenKrupp VDM) will operate under the name of ‘Outokumpu VDM GmbH’ (Outokumpu VDM) from now on. Outokumpu announced the completion of the Inoxum transaction and thus the merger with the former ThyssenKrupp subsidiary, which also included ThyssenKrupp VDM, on 28 December 2012.
"The 'Outokumpu' in the name refers to our membership in the Finnish Outokumpu Group, while 'VDM' underlines our origin,” says Dr Jürgen Olbrich, Chairman of the Management Board of Outokumpu VDM.
"VDM stands for Vereinigte Deutsche Metallwerke, United German Metalworks. During the past 80 years, our company grew to the most important provider of nickel alloys. Since the merger with ThyssenKrupp Titanium, we are one of the biggest providers of high-performance materials. To this day we are deeply rooted in the region. The VDM brand enjoys a high international reputation and is synonymous with top-quality high-performance alloys," explains Olbrich.
Apart from the new name, nothing will change for customers of the producer of nickel alloys, special stainless steels and semi-finished products in zirconium and titanium, Olbrich emphasizes:
"Our employees continue to be available to our customers as competent contacts. Besides, all major production steps at VDM still take place at our plants in Werdohl, Unna, Essen, Altena and Siegen as well as in our two plants in the USA."
VDM’s subsidiaries abroad will also replace the ThyssenKrupp component in their names with Outokumpu. As a manufacturer of metallic high-performance materials, Outokumpu VDM thus continues to operate in the market as an entity in its own right. Within the Outokumpu Group, it is assigned to the business area High Performance Stainless & Alloys.
