Two large orders, with a delivery volume of almost 6,000 tons of sheet metal, ensure a good capacity utilisation of the VDM Siegen hot rolling mill and the Altena plate and sheet production site 8both Germany). The order books are also full in the product area wire.
"We can look back at an eventful year. The return to the ThyssenKrupp Group and the start of our cost reduction programme attracted plenty of attention. Therefore it was all the more gratifying that we were successful at winning two large orders in the past weeks, which comprise a delivery volume of almost 6,000 tons of sheet metal. The two orders ensure a good utilisation of our production capacities," explains Dr Jürgen Olbrich, President and CEO of VDM Metals.
The ordered material is characterised by an outstanding resistance against a large number of corrosive media. It is smelted at the VDM location in Unna, before undergoing hot rolling and final processing in Duisburg, Siegen and Altena, which is where the metal sheets are produced. Production and delivery of the first order has already commenced.
Another positive development is seen in the product area wire. "Our nickel wires are used in the manufacture of spark plugs and as heating conductors and resistors in the electrical industry. An additional field, which is continually increasing in importance for VDM Metals, is the welding filler metals business. For the welding wire area, the past fiscal year was a record year," says Dr Olbrich.
