The initial certification process consists of two stages. Stage 1 comprises an audit that assesses the status of the CMS within the company, i.e. the understanding within the organization regarding compliance management and the integration of the various departments. In stage 2 of the audit, the actual certification audit, the implementation and effectiveness of the CMS within the organization is examined by interviewing employees. As part of this audit, around 55 employees from all relevant functions and hierarchy levels of all legal entities were interviewed, documentation and records were examined, and processes and activities were observed.
